Luke Carew attended Paarl Boys' High, where he played 1st XV rugby in 2022 and represented Western Province at the U18 Craven Week. He joined the Cheetahs on a junior contract for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, representing the union at U19, U20 and U21 levels while making his senior debut against the Pumas in the SA Cup.

In 2025, Carew joined Helderberg Rugby Club, which competes in Super League A, and also represented the Western Province U21 team. He currently plays for Helderberg.

Carew is a hardworking, physical player who thrives in defence and at the breakdown. He enjoys competing for possession, regaining the ball for his team and making sound decisions in possession. He distributes effectively to create opportunities for teammates and uses his kicking game when space allows, while his work rate, defensive mindset and commitment to the team are among his key strengths.
