Mzansi Rugby League Recruitment: All Positions

South Africa’s up and coming future professional rugby competition, Mzansi Rugby League (MRL), is looking to begin recruitment for players in all positions.

What is the Mzansi Rugby League (MRL)?
The MRL is a new up and coming professional rugby competition that looks to provide players in South Africa with the opportunity to become professional rugby players. The league is set to feature 10-16 teams across the country, and is set to be one of the biggest shakeups in South African Rugby.

• Future Professional Rugby Competition
• Clubs in Major Provinces & Cities across South Africa
• Contracts ranging from R15k p/m – R30k p/m
• Accommodation, Medical, and Other necessities provided by the league
• Trials to be held around June 2026
• Combine held thereafter for final player assessment
• All games will be live streamed on MRL’s own streaming service called MRL.tv

Where does Oval15 fit in?
Oval15 is looking to assist MRL with finding talented players who would be a great fit to compete in the league.

Player Criteria
Players need to fit the following criteria in order to be considered:

• Currently playing a high level of Rugby (Currie Cup Premier Division, Currie Cup 1st Division)
• Players with previous high level experience (URC, Top 14, Super Rugby, English Premiership, MLR, or equivalent)
• Previous SA U/20 players
• Players currently playing or previous experience at U/19, U/20, U/21 or U/23 levels for major unions
• Elite Young Players (Varsity Cup level minimum)

MRL Recruitment Process:
Through Oval15, you have the chance to gain an advantage and potentially be picked for the combine or have your trial fees sponsored!

Currently, players who are interested in joining the MRL need to register & pay in order to be put forward for trials.

After trials, MRL will host a combine where all Directors of Rugby, and other coaching staff will attend & make final player picks before the MRL draft begins at the end of 2026.

If players meet the player criteria mentioned above, they can potentially be automatically selected to attend the combine or get their trial fee sponsored by MRL and attend for free.

How do I apply?
In order to be considered, players will need to create an Oval15 player profile by registering at Oval15.com/player-registration

Thereafter, your Oval15 player profile will be sent to MRL to be assessed & reviewed by MRL staff.
