Oval15 is excited to announce the signing of Sesona Macala to Bahrain RFC.
The rampaging Back Row joins the Middle Eastern club ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Macala is a formidable rugby talent whose dynamic skills and commanding presence on the field have earned him recognition both locally and internationally. Named the 2021 Varsity Shield Player of the Tournament after leading CPUT to a thrilling victory over WSU in the final, Macala showcased his exceptional strength, speed, and try-scoring prowess. His standout performances included scoring three tries, with a memorable brace against TUT that cemented his status as a game-changer.
Hailing from Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Macala began his rugby journey at the African Bombers, where he shared the field with future Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. Often compared to Kolisi for his physicality and dominance, Macala’s hard-running lines, explosive acceleration, and unpredictable footwork make him a nightmare for defenders. At 27, he combines power and finesse, keeping opponents guessing whether he’ll burst through gaps or bulldoze over them.
Macala’s talent has taken him beyond South Africa’s borders, with stints in Portugal, Georgia, as well as Italy, where he continues to make his mark on the international rugby stage. Known for his incredible try-scoring ability, and unwavering dedication, he is a player who consistently lifts his team with clutch performances.
All of us at Oval15 wish Sesona the very best with his new adventure in Bahrain!
